The two hot topics of conversation since I’ve been pregnant are What are the babies’ names? and What’s the nursery look like?.

We can’t tell anyone what the babies’ names are. We aren’t committing until the very last second. (which seems to be rapidly approaching) I can say however, that they currently go by Turks and Caicos.

I figured the least I could do would be to show you what we’ve done with the nursery. It’s pretty simple, not an example of any decorative breakthroughs, but it should satisfy some curiosities.

Like every other room in the house, the nursery suffers the fate of being decorated with all the paintings I haven’t sold yet. Since the winter landscapes are in the living room, this room has the beach-themed artworks.

The rocking chair you see in the corner was actually an inheritance from my uncle’s front porch. It was in terrible condition when we received it. We sent it out to be sanded and restructured and Phil stained it.

The babies will get three rag dolls that were my favorites growing up. Poor Raggedy Anne is missing her clothing. I don’t know where it could have gone in the past 20 years. I think I’ll have to find a vintage pattern and sew her something…or just leave her nude and let the babies come up with something.

Phil and I are also proud of the dresser. During our dresser-hunt we went to nine different furniture stores. It was awful. Each store offered the same furniture…I mean we saw the same dressers (just about) over and over again. And each retailer was offering them at different prices. It was such a racket. Needless to say we didn’t buy anything. We’d rather have thrown the baby clothes on the ground in a messy pile than throw our money away in any of those stores. In the end we found this dresser on Overstock, got it shipped to the house for free, and Phil built it. I now like the babies’ dresser more than I like my own.

Here’s the other side of the nursery room. Thanks to friends and family we have two (really cute) lime green cribs and two handmade flannel blankets. This side of the room actually gets artwork that I didn’t make. Well, that’s not totally true. I made the painting with the heart. But the other three are prints that were gifted to us.

And the far wall has been left empty. Eventually it will be filled with a mosaic. It is a project my artist-mom designed for the babies. It is a wall hanging that was made by all that attended our two baby showers. My mom started with the trunk (of a Tree of Life) and our friends and family added the details around it. My mom will finish it with a custom tile featuring the babies’ names and their birthdate.
